ASSESSOR

ABOUT US

The County Board appoints the County Assessor, usually for a term of four years. The County Assessor is responsible for classifying and establishing market values for all real estate and personal property in the county. It is important that each parcel of property be accurately classified as each class is taxed at a different rate. Currently, there are over 20 different classification categories in the State of Minnesota. Examples of classifications would include Residential, Agricultural, Commercial, Seasonal Recreational, Residential, Rural Vacant Land, etc.

HOW DO I?

Both of these items are mailed out to all taxpayers on a form called the notice of valuation and classification in April of each year.   This information is also located on the Lake of the Woods County website on the Beacon parcel map. On the map, zoom into your parcel and click on your parcel using the identify icon at the top of the screen. Then, a box will appear on your screen.  Click on parcel report and it should show information such as value and classification as well as tax amount and mailing address.
