If you are in need of a Notary Public to witness your signature, there are several located in the Government Center building. The Recorder and Auditor/Treasurer, as well as our deputies, are considered Ex Officio Notary Publics by statutory authority. There is no fee to get your signature Notarized. You must present current photo identification.
The Recorder’s Office DOES NOT perform Notary duties on documents that will be recorded in our office. We will direct you to another Notary in the building.
Keep in mind that Notaries are also located at banks, attorney’s offices, real estate offices, etc.
Notary Public Commissions are applied for and issued through the authority of the Minnesota Secretary of State. Once you receive your Notary Commission, you must file it in your county of residence.
Filing
Fees
We require your signature on the Commission Certificate and must be done in person. A copy of your commission Certificate is filed as part of our permanent records.

For information on becoming a Notary Public, visit the Office of the Secretary of State’s Notary Public website.
