Lake of the Woods County Jail contracts with Reliance Telephone to provide phone, texting, video calling, and visitation services for inmates.

When an individual is admitted, they are issued a communication device along with one free calling card to help them contact family and friends. Additional funds can be added to an inmate’s communication “wallet” by visiting https://www.reliancetelephone.com/.

The communication device issued at intake allows inmates to place collect calls or calls paid for through their communication wallet. Each device also assigns the inmate a unique phone number that can be used to receive incoming calls and text messages.

Reliance Telephone offers those preparing to serve their sentence the option to import personal contacts from their cell phone into their Reliance communication account before reporting to jail. If you prefer to transfer your contacts now—rather than gathering contact information after you arrive at the facility—please visit their website at https://www.reliancetelephone.com/pre-booking

VISITATION HOURS

Sunday: 1pm – 4pm  |  Monday: 1pm – 4pm | Tuesday: 7pm – 9pm | Thursday: 7pm – 9pm

All visits must be approved and scheduled in advance. To request visitation approval and reserve a time slot, visit https://www.reliancetelephone.com or call the jail at 218-634-1143 to complete the approval and scheduling process.

VISITATION RULES

  • Inmates have the right to refuse any visit.
  • Visitation may be denied if the inmate is under disciplinary sanctions.
  • Anyone under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  •  Visits may be restricted to 20 minutes if there are others waiting.
  • All social visits are non-contact and subject to recording
  • Professional visitors such as clergy and attorneys will be allowed to visit at any reasonable hour.  These visits are not audio recorded.
  • All visitors must register by giving their name and relationship to the inmate.  A government issued photo ID will be required.
  • Visitors may be asked to provide information about themselves that will be used to perform a background check.  You may choose not to provide this information but if you don’t, you won’t be allowed to visit.  The result of the background check may be used to determine if you are allowed to visit or not.
  • Any attempt to bring contraband or weapons into the facility will result in arrest and criminal prosecution and denial of future visiting privileges.
  • The Lake of the Woods County Jail has the right to refuse or terminate any visit.

Participation in an alternative sentence—such as the Huber/Work Release Program must be approved by the Sheriff. These programs allow eligible sentenced individuals to maintain their current employment while serving their jail sentence.

 Program Fees:

  • Individuals sentenced in Lake of the Woods County: $25 per day
  • Lake of the Woods County residents sentenced in another county but approved to serve their time in Lake of the Woods County: $45 per day

All employment will be verified according to jail policy and must be approved by jail staff. You are required to provide your supervisor’s name and phone number for verification.

What to Bring When Reporting to Jail

When you report to the Lake of the Woods County Jail, you must bring:

  • Your court commitment paperwork
  • Your current work schedule on employer letterhead, showing at least a 7‑day schedule. You may only work your regular, pre‑approved hours and may not exceed the daily limit of 12 hours per day.

You will be required to provide a baseline breath and/or urine sample before your first work assignment. The cost for this baseline test is $10. Jail staff may administer additional tests at any time during your stay. Random testing may occur, and there is no cost to the inmate for these subsequent tests.

Medical Responsibility

All individuals participating in the Work Release Program are financially responsible for their own medical expenses while in custody.

How to Post Bail for an Individual at Lake of the Woods County Jail

Bail may be posted for those in custody or having a warrant provided that a judge has already set the bail amount.

During normal business hours (Monday–Friday 8am-4pm): Cash bail or a bail bond can be posted at the Lake of the Woods County Court Administration office.

After hours, weekends, and holidays: When the Courthouse is closed, bail can be posted at the Lake of the Woods County Sheriff’s Office.

 Payment requirements:

  • You must bring the exact bail amount.
  • Personal checks, credit cards, and debit cards are not accepted.

Out-of-County Bail: Cash bail for out-of-county warrants may be posted at the Sheriff’s Office 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Bail for out-of-county warrants will only be accepted at the jail if the subject of the warrant is in custody in Lake of the Woods County Jail.

About Bail Bonds

Instead of cash bail, an inmate may choose to go through a bonding agent. If you are assisting an inmate with posting a bond, you may search for bonding agents online. The bonding agent will help you through the process.

A bail bond is a financial guarantee that allows a person to be released from jail while awaiting their court date. A licensed bail bond company pays the full bail amount on the defendant’s behalf, and the defendant (or their family) pays the company a non‑refundable fee in return.

For a list of approved bail bond providers, visit http://www.mncourts.gov/Help-Topics/Bail-Bond-Program.aspx

The Lake of the Woods County Sheriff’s Office is responsible by state statute for processing and maintaining warrant data. An arrest warrant is issued by a judge as a result of a suspected commission of a crime and/or failure to follow an order of the Court. A judge must sign and approve each warrant before it is entered into the records system.

The Lake of the Woods County Sheriff makes outstanding warrants available as a public service. Disclosing active warrants promotes public safety and aid in the identification and apprehension of those individuals wanted on a warrant.

Do you have a warrant? How to take care of a warrant? How to verify you have a warrant for your arrest?

  1. Contact the Lake of the Woods County Court Administration to verify if you have a warrant for your arrest during their normal business hours at 218-634-1451.
  2. Contact the Sheriff’s Office to verify you have a warrant for your arrest after Court Administration is closed or on weekends or holidays at 218-634-1143.
